The BG1 NPC Project for BGT

A Gibberlings Three Mod
Authors: The BG1 NPC Project team, contact Andyr or Domi for more info.

Version 11 - Check for the most recent version

Notes

The BG1 NPC Project was originally designed for use with the BG Tutu mod. Hlidskialf was kind and diligent enough to convert the mod to be compatible with Baldur's Gate Trilogy-Big Picture and Sir Bily Bob completed subsequent versions. Do not install this version on a Tutu game; use the standard BG1 NPC mod.

BG1NPC Romance Guide’s first lines may not correspond exactly to the in-game texts, due to additional editing that took place after compiling the Guide.

Overview

This mod expands on the depth of character and levels of interaction with the NPCs from the BG game. When BG2 was released, one of the major improvements in many peoples' eyes was the increased level of interaction one could have with the party members. This mod was developed to allow

BG players a similar experience. NPCs in your party now have banters with the PC, with each other, and small side-quests of their own.

As we were unable to get the original character voice actors to voice all the new lines, we instead sought out music appropriate to each

NPC to be played whenever they initiate banter. This musical package is a separate, optional package (to keep the download size down), and you can find it on The Gibberlings Three download page. Though if anyone happens to be on friendly terms with any of the voice actors, please let us know!

Compatibility

This mod is designed to work with the Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod which requires both Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II and the respective expansions, Tales of the Sword Coast and Throne of Bhaal.

Installation

Windows
The BG1 NPC Project is packaged and installed with WeiDU and is distributed as a self-extracting archive. To install, simply double-click the archive and follow the instructions on screen.

Alternatively the files can be extracted from the archive using

WinRAR. If properly extracted, you should have a BG1NPC folder, BG1NPC.tp2 and Setup-BG1NPC.exe in your BG2 folder. To install, simply double-click Setup-BG1NPC.exe and follow the instructions on screen.

Please run Setup-BG1NPC.exe in your

BG2 folder to reinstall, uninstall or otherwise change components.

Mac OS X
If the mod was previously installed, uninstall it before extracting the new version. Please note that this mod is incompatible with Mod Organizer. The

BG1 NPC Project is packaged and installed with WeiDU. To install, simply extract the contents of the mod into your BG2 folder. If properly extracted, you should have a BG1NPC folder, BG1NPC.tp2, Setup-BG1NPC, and Setup-BG1NPC.command in your BG2 folder. To install, simply double-click Setup-BG1NPC.command and follow the instructions on screen.

Contents

The mod contains separate components that can be installed independently of one another.

Banters
This component adds intra-party banters to

BG NPCs and comprises the bulk of the mod content. Each joinable NPC banters at least once with every other joinable NPC and with the player character.

Phase II Content
This component adds interjections, scenery dialogue, encounters and quests for the

NPCs and is an ongoing project. Currently, all NPCs except for Edwin, Quayle and Viconia have scenery dialogues and interjections added. Large, personal quests are under development. Coran, Garrick, Kivan and Xan have custom personal quests added by this release.

Quest Spoilers - Coran

Brielbara will stay put after you return Namara to her (from Yago). Coran will initiate conversation prompting you to return - if you agree, you pretty much get the BABY. Coran will repeat the talk once if you ask him to be patient, and complain once before running off. Brielbara gives you some items. If you talk Coran into abandoning the baby he becomes

CN and you lose reputation. If Coran is badly wounded when with the baby he will run away forever, to save the child.

Quest Spoilers - Garrick

Go to the Nashkel Carnival, area FW4900. Go to a little left and below Shar-Teel, right of Lord Binky the Buffoon. At (2600, 3300) you will see a robed figure named Archibald, X#Garar.CRE. He'll come up to you - and so the quest begins. If you're nice to Archibald you should get a book, and after 10 seconds Garrick will speak about it and ask to go to Ulcaster.

At Ulcaster, FW3900 coordinates 950,1675, you will see a guy called Myr'Cutio (X#GarWyl.CRE), and his friends X#Garz01.CRE, X#Garz02.CRE, X#Garz03.CRE and X#Garz04.CRE. Talk to them, kill them and the main part of the adventure is complete...

If you take the Bardic Chain gained to Sorcerous Sundries in Baldur's Gate with 1,000 gold and the Golden Pantaloons then Halbazzer Drin will upgrade the Bardic Chain to

AC 5 for you. You need Garrick in the party to start the quest, but he doesn't need to be there to upgrade the armor.

Quest Spoilers - Kivan

A bounty Hunter shows up on the City side of the Baldur's Gate Bridge, area FW0900. She will involve the party in a quick conversation and if Kivan is in the party, there are choices of either killing him or the Bounty Hunter.

Quest Spoilers - Xan

This small quest occurs when you enter the North Nashkel Road and encounter David Jansen, a prisoner of two Ogres; the items needed to solve the quest peacefully can be found in the Nashkel Carnival red rectangular tent.

Jason Compton's Accelerated Banter Script
This component installs Jason Compton's Accelerated Banter Script, which basically makes banters happen more often. It is the same one as included with mods such as Ease-Of-Use and the Banter Packs for

BG2, so if you have installed it there you don't need it again. Don't worry, the installer will tell you if you already have it installed.

Change Unarmored Male Human Rogue Appearance
Unfortunately, naked male human rogues (thieves and bards) don't look too good in Tutu. Well, strictly speaking, naked ones might look good but unarmored ones certainly don't. This tweak will make an unarmored male human bard or thief appear with the hooded avatar as used by armored thieves. It will also, though, make other unarmored male humans (except mages) appear with the hooded avatar. Since they'll be armored most of the time, it shouldn't be too noticeable.

Change Unarmored Female Human Rogue Appearance
This does the same as the Change Unarmored Male Human Rogue Appearance component above, but for females.

Give Edwin his

BG2 portrait
This component will give Edwin his portrait from BG2.

Give Imoen her BG2 portrait

Alternate Portraits - DEPRECATED
The alternate portraits for joinable NPCs have been deprecated and moved to the BG1 NPC Portrait Pack.

There are also additional optional components to give the NPCs from BG who are also in BG2 the portraits that they use in BG2. On installation you will be asked about each individually: If you would prefer that their BG portraits be used, simply select no when prompted. There are a couple of new optional portraits for Coran, take a look in the Portraits directory inside the

BG1 NPC main folder and see which one you like best.

Portraits for Non-Joinable NPCs
Installing this component gives some important non-joinable NPCs portraits, such as Gorion, Angelo, Duke Eltan and Tazok.

Coran's Romance
This component will allow Coran to romance a female PC of human or elven background; solving Coran's expanded quest will effect the development of the romance, as will the PC's reactions in dialogue.

There is also a separate component to select the speed of the romance timers.

New Quests
This component will install new quests for Baldur's Gate.

There is also a separate component to select the speed of the romance timers.

PC to ask questions about an NPC and their past.
